On the 20th, the Ministry of Science and ICT held the ‘AI Normalization Series Meeting’ at Studio Lab in Seocho-gu, Seoul, to discuss government support directions necessary for the introduction of AI in daily life. The meeting was organized to hear on-site opinions from companies related to fashion, food tech, and smart homes, with the concept of clothing, food, and shelter.

The meeting was attended by data-specialized companies including Kang Seong-hoon, CEO of Studio Lab; Yoo Hyun-joo, CEO of Top Table; Kim Seong-hoon, Head of Tenminds; Shin In-jun, CEO of Sije; and Kim Hyun-soo, CEO of Superb AI.

They presented on their AI service development processes and industry trends. In the subsequent discussion, various policy support measures for the spread of AI services that make people’s lives more convenient and for global expansion were discussed.

Kim Seong-hoon, Head of Tenminds, a sleep tech company that produces anti-snoring pillows, said, “Snoring during sleep varies in type depending on the cause or the location of the sound, and data on such sounds is difficult to obtain without cooperation from medical institutions,” adding, “If the nation discovers and collects various data at the national level, it would be possible to create services that generate diverse added value.”

Yoo Hyun-joo, CEO of food tech company Top Table, also stated, “The data needed to provide customized nutrition solutions to consumers is vast for a company to handle alone,” emphasizing the need for national-level assistance in the data collection and interpretation process for AI.

They also pointed out the need for government assistance in the process of introducing AI in traditional industries such as manufacturing. Kim Hyun-soo, CEO of Superb AI, said, “Traditional industries already have established human networks and tend to trade with long-standing partners they have known for decades, making it difficult for new companies to penetrate,” adding, “If policies such as providing incentives when traditional industries adopt new technologies from AI companies are created, it would help innovation in manufacturing and other sectors.”

Park Yoon-gyu, 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, “We will comprehensively review the opinions raised at the meeting,” and added, “Since the areas of clothing, food, and shelter are broad, we will invite other related companies and hold another session to listen to their stories.”
