KEP Conducts Exit Poll for the 22nd National Assembly Election
Unauthorized Quotation Prohibited Regardless of Media... Including YouTube
Project Cost 7.28 Billion KRW, Targeting 500,000 Voters
The Korea Broadcasting Association's Joint Survey Committee for Broadcasters (KEP) announced on the 20th that it will conduct an exit poll for the 22nd National Assembly election scheduled for the 10th of next month.
Since the 5th nationwide simultaneous local elections in 2010, KEP has accurately predicted the outcomes of a total of 10 nationwide elections, including the 20th presidential election in 2022 and the 7th local elections.
Kim Cheol-woo, Chairman of KEP (Head of the Election Broadcasting Planning Team), stated, "The three terrestrial broadcasters (KBS, MBC, SBS) will fulfill their public duties of ensuring the public's right to know, alleviating election fatigue, and verifying fair election management through swift election predictions despite difficult domestic and international conditions."
He added, "The exit poll results are intellectual property of the three broadcasters, which have invested enormous costs, and citing the exit poll results without permission from the three broadcasters is illegal and violates the 'Act on the Prevention of Unfair Competition and Protection of Trade Secrets.'" He also warned of active legal action against unauthorized citation reports. According to the 'Exit Poll Citation Standards' announced by KEP, the standards apply not only to comprehensive programming channels, newspapers, and portals but also to YouTube channels.
Citing exit poll results must be done with a considerable time lag and only for regions officially announced by all three terrestrial broadcasters, regardless of the media type. The number of seats by party can be cited after 6:30 PM, and the predicted winners of each constituency can be cited after 7:00 PM.
The 'Joint Exit Poll of the Three Broadcasters for the 22nd National Assembly Election,' with a total project cost of 7.28 billion KRW, will be conducted by three survey institutions: Korea Research, Korea Research, and Ipsos Corporation. On election day, from 6 AM to 6 PM, approximately 500,000 voters will be surveyed at about 2,000 polling stations nationwide. The exit poll results will be announced through the three broadcasters at the election closing time of 6 PM.
