The High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Department (Gong-su-cheo) has decided not to prosecute the accused who was reported for leaking the indictment contents of Lee Seong-yoon, former head of the Anti-Corruption and Strong Crime Division at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office (currently a research fellow at the Legal Research and Training Institute), to the media.
The Investigation Division 1 of Gong-su-cheo (Chief Prosecutor Kim Seon-gyu) announced on the 20th that it will not prosecute the unidentified accused who was reported for leaking the indictment contents of former Deputy Minister of Justice Kim Hak-ui's illegal travel ban case, in which former head Lee was charged with exerting external pressure during the investigation.
In May 2021, Gong-su-cheo received a report stating that an unidentified person within the prosecution leaked the indictment contents regarding former head Lee to a specific media reporter once before the first trial date or before the defendant was served a copy of the indictment, and launched an investigation.
However, Gong-su-cheo recently judged that it is practically difficult to ascertain the truth any further, as even the request for a search warrant to obtain inspection (fact-finding) materials from the Supreme Prosecutors' Office was rejected, and thus decided not to prosecute.
