Uljin-gun Practices Carbon Neutral City through Resource Recycling Project

Promoting Resource Recycling through Eco-Friendly Waste Separation System

▲Promoting Resource Recycling in Areas Vulnerable to Separate Waste Collection

The county has installed eco-friendly separate waste collection systems (Clean Houses) at a total of 31 locations, including 11 sites in Uljin-eup, to facilitate the smooth collection of recyclable resources and increase the activation rate of resource recycling.

Additionally, to improve the waste disposal environment and enhance convenience for residents in areas vulnerable to separate waste collection, the county is currently accepting sites for the construction of 10 Clean Houses within the jurisdiction this year, with a budget of 170 million KRW.

▲Encouraging Citizen Participation in Recycling Resources

To raise public awareness for building a resource-circulating society, citizens can exchange 20 used batteries at the nearest eup/myeon office for one set of new batteries.

Also, general packs or aseptic packs containing milk or juice can be exchanged for one roll of tissue paper, with the number of packs ranging from 10 to 40 depending on the size.

Uljin-gun plans to spend 8 million KRW this year to exchange used batteries and paper packs for batteries or tissue paper, thereby establishing a proper disposal culture and creating a clean living environment.

▲Recycling of Agricultural Waste Vinyl and Pesticide Containers

As part of the agricultural transformation project, Uljin-gun is striving for carbon neutrality by securing high-quality recyclable resources through the establishment of an agricultural waste vinyl collection center to recycle waste vinyl and pesticide containers generated during farming processes.

The compensation for waste vinyl and pesticide containers collected at the agricultural waste vinyl collection center amounted to 73 million KRW in 2023, and the budget has been secured to continue this effort in 2024.

By installing the agricultural waste vinyl collection center, the county is contributing not only to resource recycling but also to preventing illegal dumping and incineration.

In addition, Uljin-gun operates eight temporary monitoring personnel to encourage proper separation and disposal of household waste so that resources can be recycled, and plans to continuously promote and educate on recycling methods and the carbon point system targeting schools, organizations, and village senior centers in cooperation with environmental education volunteer groups.

County Governor Son Byung-bok urged, “To prevent the waste of valuable resources, retail businesses and general restaurants should also practice policies restricting the use of disposable products and join in the effort to realize a carbon-neutral city.”
