As public anxiety has increased over crimes with unpredictable times and locations, such as abnormal motive crimes and violent incidents, the police established the Mobile Patrol Unit and Criminal Mobile Unit last year through organizational restructuring, maintaining local police personnel while enabling flexible deployment.
Accordingly, these units will operate based on public security data analysis, including crime statistics, the Crime Risk Prediction and Analysis System (Pre-CAS), and the Geographic Profiling System (Geo-Pros), to meet security demands. The police expect that by actively deploying these units in the event of unforeseen security issues, rapid and effective responses will be possible.
Meanwhile, the National Police Agency held a joint inauguration ceremony for the Seoul Police Agency’s Mobile Patrol Unit and Criminal Mobile Unit at the Seoul Police Agency auditorium at 2 p.m. today. Following Seoul, city and provincial police agencies nationwide will hold individual inauguration ceremonies.
Attending the inauguration ceremony, National Police Agency Commissioner Yoon Hee-geun said, “The large-scale organizational restructuring carried out last year is the embodiment of our collective will and passion to protect the peaceful daily lives of the public, serving as a lever to enhance on-site responsiveness and problem-solving capabilities. The Mobile Patrol Unit and Criminal Mobile Unit launching today will serve as a solid safety net protecting the public and frontline officers, tightly filling security gaps and blind spots.”
