On the 19th, a post titled "Recent Status of a Typical High School Girl These Days" went viral on online communities and social networking services (SNS). In a short 25-second video, a teenage female is seen confronting a man who appears to be the convenience store owner after he points out that she did not clean up the food she had finished eating.
When the store owner shouted, "Clean it up," the woman responded with a string of curses, saying, "You XXX," followed by "If you're an adult, act your age." The man then pushed her shoulder and shouted again to clean up, to which the woman protested with more curses such as "You XXXX, I'm a girl," "Did I eat X? You XXX," and "Speak properly, you XXXX." The video ends with the convenience store owner seemingly giving up and turning away.
Additional footage that surfaced later shows what appears to be a police officer arriving due to the prolonged dispute. The woman continued to verbally abuse the convenience store owner even in front of the police officer, showing somewhat aggressive protest.
It is known that the student not only caused a disturbance at the convenience store but also stole a 50,000 won bill that was tucked behind someone else's phone at a restaurant, assaulted a friend on the street, and even attempted car theft. She has since dropped out of high school and used several million won on a card under another person's name, resulting in a juvenile law Article 10 disposition and her being sent to a juvenile detention center.
Netizens who saw the video reacted with comments such as, "Kids these days are too scary to even correct," "There is prejudice against people who curse like that," "Even if she didn’t eat it, cursing someone old enough to be her father like that is unacceptable," and "Is this really Korea? I wish this were a foreign country. It makes me angry to think that such people are walking around society normally."
