Yangcheon-gu, Health Helpers for Children and Seniors
Jung-gu, Recruiting Student Career Experience Helpers
Residents take care of residents' health. They also step up as helpers to support children's career paths.
This is what Seoul's Yangcheon-gu and Jung-gu are doing.
They recruit residents with experience, provide them with certain compensation, and then utilize them as health helpers for children and the elderly or as career experience instructors for students, achieving a "two birds with one stone" effect.
Residents benefit from new job opportunities, and children receive great help from local seniors who teach them.
Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) is recruiting about 20 trainees to become instructors and work as ‘Together Movement Supporters’ who support physical activities for local seniors and users of children's facilities. ‘Together Movement Supporters’ is a participatory physical activity project aimed at promoting health among vulnerable groups through training Yangcheon-gu residents.
Selected supporters will complete theoretical and practical physical activity programs and then be dispatched to institutions in need to work as physical activity instructors.
Partner institutions for this project include ▲children’s facilities (Uri Dongnae Care Center) ▲senior facilities (Senior Welfare Center, Senior Sarangbang, Daycare Center, etc.), where physical activity classes are conducted for children and seniors affiliated with these facilities.
Anyone aged 19 to 64 residing in Yangcheon-gu who is capable of physical activity can apply to be a Together Movement Supporter. Interested residents can fill out the training application form on the district office website’s notice section and submit it via email to the person in charge by the 4th of next month. The district office will review applications and notify selected candidates individually.
Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “Together Movement Supporters is a meaningful sharing activity where Yangcheon-gu residents take the lead in giving back their talents and experience to the community. We hope many residents will participate actively to create a healthy Yangcheon.”
Seoul Jung-gu is recruiting a ‘Parent Career Experience Support Group’ to help teenagers explore career paths.
The Career Experience Support Group, composed of parents with diverse careers and talents, will guide various youth career programs at the Career and Job Experience Support Center located in Jung-gu Sindang Nuri Center. They hold regular monthly meetings to plan and operate youth career and job experience activities, festivals, clubs, and more.
The activity period is from March to December this year. Participants will receive a modest activity allowance.
Parents living in Jung-gu or whose children attend schools in Jung-gu can apply by visiting the Jung-gu Career and Job Experience Support Center (Jung-gu Dream Toktok) blog.
The application deadline is March 8, 2024. Selection will be made through document screening and interviews.
The newly formed Parent Career Experience Support Group will start full activities after receiving basic career counseling theory and career storyteller training from March.
The youth career clubs operated by the Jung-gu Career and Job Experience Support Center, including ‘Asta,’ are recruiting members until March 8 and March 22, respectively.
‘Maker’ is a club for elementary school students in grades 4 to 6 focused on equipment production. Participants can engage in various projects using advanced equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, and textile printers. Activities take place every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
‘Asta’ is for high school students interested in cafe entrepreneurship and employment, offering practical training in coffee and dessert making. Support is also available for preparing barista certification.
