Gwanak-gu Launches 'Spring Wildfire Prevention Headquarters' Operation

As the cold winter passes and warm spring arrives, many residents visit the mountains. However, during spring, the risk of forest fires also increases due to dry weather. In particular, since 46.82% of Gwanak-gu's total area is green space, thorough forest fire prevention is essential.

Accordingly, Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) has designated the period until May 15 as the 'Spring Forest Fire Prevention Period' and is fully launching forest fire prevention and suppression activities, including the operation of the Forest Fire Prevention Countermeasures Headquarters.

First, the district has entered a constant emergency duty system according to work guidelines based on weather conditions, maintaining a readiness posture to respond immediately in case of any incidents.

Real-time monitoring is conducted through closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) and black boxes installed on major mountains such as Gwanaksan to establish forest fire prevention and initial suppression readiness.

In particular, a close cooperation system is also established with related organizations such as fire stations, police stations, and military units.

Together with related organizations, efficient training such as 'joint suppression drills' to master each agency's mission in forest fire suppression will be conducted, and systematic suppression activities will be carried out.

Efforts are also made to maintain fire suppression equipment and manage personnel. Suppression equipment, communication devices, and forest fire extinguishing facilities are thoroughly inspected, and a 'Forest Fire Specialized Reserve Suppression Team' is operated to strengthen patrol and guidance activities focusing on vulnerable areas prone to forest fires.

At the same time, forest fire prevention promotional materials will be produced, installed, and distributed to encourage residents to voluntarily participate in forest fire prevention.

Furthermore, if a forest fire is discovered during a hike, it can be immediately reported to ▲fire station ▲Gwanak-gu Office Situation Room ▲Gwanak-gu Office Park and Greenery Division.

Park Junhee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, said, “Based on systematic cooperation with related organizations, we will devote all efforts to 'forest fire prevention and suppression' activities to protect the lives and property of residents. We also ask residents to familiarize themselves with forest fire prevention action guidelines, enjoy safe hiking, and immediately report any forest fires discovered during hiking to the district office or 119.”
