B-Boying, Daljip Burning, Fireworks... Dobong-gu Jeongwol Daeboreum Moon Viewing Festival in Full Swing

Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) will hold the '2024 Jeongwol Daeboreum Moon Viewing Festival' on the 23rd near Dobong-gu Office by the Jungnangcheon River (in front of Seowon Apartment Building 105, Dobong 2-dong) to pray for the peace and well-being of Dobong residents in the new year of Gapjin.

The festival will open with a lively street parade by local artists' pungmul troupe. The parade will start at 5:20 PM from Dobong-gu Office Square and proceed to the main event site by the Jungnangcheon River.

At the Jungnangcheon event site, from 5:40 PM, a variety of celebratory performances will be held, including ▲the grand 'Daechwita performance' by the military band ▲dynamic 'B-boying' by Dobong-gu Office's professional breaking team ▲and 'professional traditional performance troupe shows' featuring lion dance and tightrope walking.

After the performances, Mayor Oh Eon-seok will read the 'Prayer for Blessings,' followed by the festival's highlights: the 'Daljip Burning' (burning of the moon house) and 'fireworks display.'

Notably, this year's Daljip Burning will take place at a waterside moon house installed by the Jungnangcheon River. The moon house, decorated with wish banners, and the wish papers containing the hopes and aspirations of residents will be simultaneously set on fire by the mayor, representatives from 14 community centers, and key guests, praying for the fulfillment of the residents' wishes written on the papers as the moon house burns.

The festival will conclude with a fireworks display. Starting with Mayor Oh Eon-seok's countdown, the fireworks will illuminate the night sky over Jungnangcheon for 10 minutes. Safety personnel and fire extinguishers will be stationed to prevent any accidents.

The district will install the moon house in advance on February 21 to allow residents using the Jungnangcheon riverside to hang their wish papers containing their hopes and aspirations for the year. From February 21 to 23 (10 AM to 5 PM), a 'Wish Paper Writing' booth will operate for three days.

Since the 7th, a 'Cheongsachorong-gil' (traditional Korean lantern path) softly lighting the walking trail around the Jungnangcheon event site has been installed, providing another attraction for residents.

Mayor Oh Eon-seok of Dobong-gu said, "Jeongwol Daeboreum is one of Korea's traditional holidays to pray for the peace and a bountiful harvest of the village," adding, "I hope families and neighbors will burn the Daljip together at this moon viewing event, pray for their wishes for the year, and create precious memories."
