Elementary and Adult Courses at 'Yunghap Injae Education Center' Spring Semester Open, Applications Accepted Until March 1
Discussion, Practice, and Experience-Based Education to Enhance Interest and Achievement... Aiming to Foster Future Science Talents
Create Unique Works Like Wood and Leather Crafts, Short Films Using Latest Science and Technology
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that the 'Convergence Talent Education Center' will operate spring semester courses for elementary students and adults that incorporate science into everyday life.
The spring semester courses at the 'Convergence Talent Education Center' focus on fostering curiosity and interest in science among children, the future dream talents. Additionally, adults are given opportunities to easily approach science and technology and create their own works using scientific technology.
In particular, the district introduced the STEAM education method to help elementary students nurture their dreams and talents in science and grow into scientific talents who will lead the 4th Industrial Revolution. STEAM education, which cultivates creative and convergent talents, is an educational approach that combines discussion, practice, and experience rather than simply imparting knowledge, enhancing thinking skills, interest in academics, and achievement.
Based on this STEAM education, children directly create their imagined future city under the theme "Ttukttak Ttukttak! We Are Future City Creators" by using core technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution such as robots, coding, and drones. They engage in hands-on experiences and practice by creating barrier-free exhibition spaces with 3D printing technology, operating autonomous driving systems with physical computers, and designing future stations using aerial mobility, making science interesting and accessible.
For the adult courses, participants can create their own unique and creative works based on the latest scientific technologies. This includes pattern making using design programs and 3D printers, leather cutting with laser cutters, and integrating smart technology into woodworking and leather crafting. There is also a class prepared for making short films using artificial intelligence.
The district expects that through these well-prepared spring semester courses, children will develop creativity and scientific capabilities, while adults will be able to freely realize their ideas through science and technology.
The spring semester courses begin in March, and applications for both elementary student and adult courses are accepted until March 1. Residents wishing to participate can apply through the integrated reservation board on the district’s website.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “We will proactively establish the foundation for future science education so that Yeongdeungpo-gu can become a cradle for nurturing scientific talents who will lead Korea.” He added, “We will continue to develop various programs and content so that people of all ages can enjoy science.”
