Incheon Yeonsu-gu Implements Public Guardianship Project to Ensure Human Rights and Dignity of Dementia Patients

Yeonsu-gu, Incheon announced on the 19th that it is implementing a public guardianship project for dementia patients to protect the human rights of elderly people with dementia and provide a safe care environment.

The public guardianship project for dementia aims to guarantee human dignity by supporting elderly dementia patients who have difficulty making decisions due to lack of decision-making ability to use the adult guardianship system.

The target beneficiaries of the public guardianship for dementia (wards) are primarily basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty class, and basic pension recipients diagnosed with dementia, as well as elderly individuals who do not have family members to properly represent their rights and those who need decision-making support.

The beneficiaries can receive support for ▲applying for and using social welfare services such as long-term care insurance for the elderly ▲matters related to the use of medical services ▲residence-related affairs ▲daily living expenses and daily life-related affairs ▲matters related to applications under public law.

Applications can be made by local residents or institutions recommending eligible elderly individuals, and can be submitted anytime in connection with dementia safety centers, district administrative welfare centers, senior welfare centers, nursing homes, and others.

The procedure is as follows: service application → selection of guardianship candidate → matching with a public guardian for dementia → filing for guardianship trial → guardianship trial decision → guardianship activities. For detailed information, inquiries can be made to the Yeonsu-gu Dementia Safety Center.

An official from Yeonsu-gu requested, "We ask residents to show great interest in the public guardianship project for dementia so that individuals struggling due to dementia can maintain a better quality of life and establish a foundation for independent living."
