Dongmyeong University Hair Design Department, 'First 4-Year University' Schoolship with SASSOON ACADEMY

Dongmyung University (President Jeon Ho-hwan) announced that the Department of Hair Design at the College of Beauty Arts has recently signed the SASSOON SCHOOLSHIP with the world’s top beauty education institution, SASSOON ACADEMY UK London headquarters, becoming an official member. This is the first case among four-year universities in Korea.

The Department of Hair Design at Dongmyung University College of Beauty Arts, the first four-year institution to sign a scholarship agreement with SASSOON ACADEMY.

The faculty of the Department of Hair Design at Dongmyung University visited Sassoon Academy in London, UK, from January 20 to 28 to participate in the TDTC: TEACHERS & DIRECTORS TRAINING COURSE (Beauty Education Professors & Instructors and Beauty Salon Directors Teaching Training Course) and completed it with excellent results, leading to the signing of this schoolship.

Through this, the two institutions agreed to cooperate on the future growth and development of the Korean beauty industry, as well as on the friendship and educational programs of the UK Sassoon Academy.

With the signing of the SASSOON SCHOOLSHIP, undergraduate students of the Department of Hair Design at Dongmyung University and graduate students in the Beauty Arts and Cosmetology master’s and doctoral programs will have opportunities such as ▲ attending seminars and workshops by director instructors from SASSOON UK visiting Korea in May 2024 ▲ participating in the domestic selection competition for the Tokyo Sassoon Cut Contest in September.

Students who achieve excellent results in the Tokyo Sassoon Cut Contest will be awarded scholarships to complete a design course at the London Sassoon Academy headquarters during their graduation semester.

SASSOON ACADEMY was founded by Vidal Sassoon, a British hair designer and entrepreneur who remains an eternal idol for hair designers worldwide. It is the world’s leading beauty education institution where hairdressers and beauty educators from around the globe study abroad at the London headquarters to improve their hairdressing skills and creativity.

Department Head Kim Seo-in said, “The Department of Hair Design at Dongmyung University is organized into majors in Hair Design and Hair Loss & Wig Management,” adding, “We will fully cooperate to nurture global hair talents through this schoolship.”

He also expressed aspirations for the department to establish itself as the nation’s top prestigious hair design department through initiatives such as the introduction of a one-year three-semester system benchmarked from the University of Waterloo in Canada, creative modules to enhance SNS marketing skills required in the beauty industry field, and curricula reflecting industry needs such as beauty CS and global leader training modules.

Department Head Kim Seo-in holds notable credentials including being the youngest in the nation and the first in the southeastern region to earn a PhD in Beauty Arts (2009), the youngest certified Master Hair Technician in Busan (2005), and over 20 years of practical experience in the industry field.
