'Village Activist Appointment'... Helping Residents Solve Village Issues Effectively
Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Woo Seung-hee) appointed seven '2024 Village Activists' at the county office on the 15th.
According to the county on the 19th, these village activists, selected through open recruitment and interviews, will visit villages in 11 towns and townships to engage in field activities until the end of this year.
They will investigate village resources, help residents solve village problems on their own, and assist in ensuring that village community activities are well conducted.

Yeongam-gun, under the 8th popularly elected administration which proclaims that "Yeongam residents are the owners of county administration," views resident autonomy as the core of grassroots democracy activities. This is why the ordinance supporting village activists to promote resident autonomy activities was revised last year.
Following the ordinance revision, Yeongam-gun conducted training for village activists, selected seven village activists this year, and held this appointment ceremony. The appointed village activists will act as facilitators of village autonomous community activities by connecting Yeongam-gun, intermediary support organizations, and villages.
Specifically, they will perform △ consulting and on-site support for village community activities △ discovering village resources △ supporting resident autonomy activities.
Yeongam-gun plans to continue supporting village activists by providing capacity-building education and regularizing meetings, while also assessing the status of each village community and encouraging exchanges among village activists to contribute to strengthening networks between village communities.
A county official said, "We selected and operated village activists for the first time last year. Starting this year, we will support the simultaneous growth of village communities and village activists in the villages," and added, "We ask for the interest and cooperation of village residents."
