An 80-year-old man who jumped onto the tracks near Daejeon Station was hit by a train and died.

On the 18th, Korail announced that on the 17th at around 6:14 PM, Mr. A (82) was struck by a Mugunghwa train heading toward Busan on the Gyeongbu Line near the tracks in Panam-dong, Dong-gu, Daejeon. Mr. A was seriously injured and transported to a hospital but died during treatment. Korail stated that Mr. A had entered the tracks without authorization while the train was in operation. Due to the accident, the train was delayed for about 40 minutes, and two subsequent trains were delayed by 10 to 20 minutes.


The police are investigating the detailed circumstances of the accident.


Previously, in October last year, a fatal accident occurred on the down tracks between Yeongdeungpo and Guro Stations on the KTX Gyeongbu Line. The fire department reported that an unidentified man who trespassed onto the KTX Gyeongbu Line tracks was struck and died. This accident also caused delays for trains traveling in the down direction.
