First-Come, First-Served Registration on Website...Rich Educational Programs by Age and Number Throughout the Year
Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) will hold an orientation session for the Yongsan History Museum education program on the 28th at the Yongsan History Museum, targeting teachers from kindergartens, daycare centers, and elementary, middle, and high schools.
This event aims to introduce the Yongsan History Museum as an active learning site for modern and contemporary history in educational settings.
The orientation will include a tour of the Yongsan History Museum’s permanent exhibition hall, viewing of the special exhibition "School of Yongsan," and an introduction to the 2024 education programs. The guided tours of both permanent and special exhibitions will be conducted by professional education instructors.
The education programs introduced at the orientation are prepared according to age groups: preschool, elementary, and youth.
The preschool program presents Yongsan’s historical and cultural content through puppet shows and storytelling. Puppet shows will be held in June, and storytelling sessions will take place every Friday from October to December.
The elementary group program, which can be linked to school curricula, offers historical and cultural experience programs themed around old place names of Yongsan and Sin Yongsan during the Japanese colonial period. These programs run every Tuesday from April to December, except August.
For middle and high schools, the "Yong.Dam. Yongsan" program, connected with the village learning book, can be utilized in the curriculum. It is scheduled every Tuesday in October and November.
The orientation is open to 20 teachers nationwide. Participants will receive museum catalogs, educational activity sheets, and educational videos that can be used as school teaching materials. Teachers wishing to attend can apply through the Yongsan History Museum website. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis after individual confirmation.
Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, stated, “The urban history leading to today’s Yongsan is fully preserved in the Yongsan History Museum,” and added, “We hope it will actively serve as a vivid educational site for modern and contemporary history in connection with public education.”
The Yongsan History Museum also offers various education programs for individuals, families, adults, and foreigners this year. Applications can be made three weeks before the start of each program. Detailed schedules and other information are available on the Yongsan History Museum website.
