Conducting On-site Training for Accommodation Facilities in Haeundae-gu
Education on Personal Hygiene Rules such as Handwashing and Cough Etiquette
Busan City conducted infectious disease prevention education for employees of accommodation facilities located in Haeundae-gu, where officials related to the '2024 Busan World Table Tennis Championships' will stay during the event, over two days on the 14th and 15th.
Hosted by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and organized by the 2024 Busan World Table Tennis Championships Organizing Committee, the 'BNK Busan Bank 2024 Busan World Table Tennis Championships' will take place from February 16 to 25, with over 2,000 athletes from 47 countries participating.
This education was conducted as part of the city's efforts to prevent infectious diseases amid the global outbreaks of measles and respiratory infections, with a large number of domestic and international athletes and event officials visiting Busan for the '2024 Busan World Table Tennis Championships,' heightening the risk of infectious disease occurrence.
VIPs, SUMMIT attendees, athletes, match officials, short-term staff, and media personnel will be staying in large numbers at accommodation facilities located in Haeundae-gu.
The city visited seven accommodation facilities in Haeundae-gu to provide education on proper handwashing and cough etiquette to prevent infectious diseases.
Using a handwashing experience education box called View Box, handwashing practice education and cough etiquette training were conducted to help accommodation staff recognize the importance of infectious disease prevention such as handwashing.
Additionally, information on infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, AIDS, and Hansen's disease was provided, and quarantine supplies including hand sanitizers, disinfectant sprays, and masks were supplied while urging compliance with personal quarantine rules.
Proper handwashing is considered so important for infectious disease prevention that it is also called a self vaccine. It can prevent 20% of respiratory diseases and 30% of diarrheal diseases.
The city is thoroughly preparing not only for infectious disease prevention but also for response by establishing a system that can quickly respond in case of an outbreak, ensuring that the event proceeds without disruption due to infectious diseases.
Lee Sora, Director of the Citizen Health Bureau of the city, stated, “We ask everyone to strictly follow personal quarantine rules such as proper handwashing and cough etiquette to prevent infectious diseases,” and added, “Our city will continue to do its best in preventing, preparing for, and responding to infectious diseases to ensure the successful completion of the ‘2024 Busan World Table Tennis Championships.’”
