Protecting Personal Information with ‘Parking Safety Number’ Instead of Mobile Phone Number
Guro-gu (District Mayor Moon Heon-il) will expand the 'Parking Safety Number Service,' which was piloted last year, to all residents this year.
The 'Parking Safety Number Service' is a service that uses a safety number instead of a personal mobile phone number as an emergency contact left on a vehicle during parking or stopping. By minimizing the exposure of personal information, it is effective in preventing various crimes such as spam calls, advertising messages, and voice phishing.
In August last year, Guro-gu enacted the 'Guro-gu Personal Information Protection Project Activation Support Ordinance' to establish the legal basis for promoting the project, and from September, piloted the 'Parking Safety Number Service' with 1,000 residents.
As a result of the pilot operation, the district explained that since the proportion of female applicants reached 60% of the total and it was judged to help create a safe living environment for residents, the decision was made to expand the service.
When using the Parking Safety Number Service, a 12-digit safety number starting with 0504 is issued instead of the actual mobile phone number. Calls can be received without exposing personal information, and incoming calls to the safety number can be confirmed through the mobile phone notification window.
The service application is available to Guro-gu residents who own or use a vehicle, and only one person per vehicle can apply.
Applications can be made on the Guro-gu Office website, and after applying for the service, users install the 'Parking Safety Number Moba' app on their mobile phones to receive and use the safety number.
The safety number plate for vehicle attachment will be mailed to the address provided at the time of application.
A Guro-gu official said, "We hope to prevent crimes and protect the valuable personal information of our residents through the Parking Safety Number Service," adding, "We will actively promote the service so that no one misses out due to lack of awareness."
