The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 18th that the "12th Korea-Japan High-Level Transportation Cooperation Meeting" will be held on the 20th at Lotte City Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul, to share major transportation policies with Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and discuss directions for transportation development.

The chief representative from Korea is Park Ji-hong, Director General of the Transportation and Logistics Office at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and from Japan, Atsushi Uehara, Director of the Land and Transportation Council at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

The transportation cooperation meetings have been held 11 times since 2000. However, they were suspended after 2016 and are now resuming after 8 years, following the Korea-Japan summit held in March last year. The two countries plan to share major transportation policies and visions, including local and rural transportation services, autonomous vehicles, logistics policy directions, and the promotion of eco-friendly transportation.

Specifically, in the field of local and rural transportation services, they will discuss the current status of support projects such as remote route services and policy directions to expand local mobility rights. In the autonomous vehicle sector, they will introduce key strategies to commercialize fully autonomous driving by 2027. They will also exchange views on domestic logistics industry trends, logistics policy including advancement, and measures to promote eco-friendly transportation to achieve carbon neutrality goals.

On the 21st, they will visit K-City, the autonomous vehicle testbed at the Korea Automobile Testing & Research Institute in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to directly showcase domestic technology through autonomous vehicle and high-speed circuit test drives.

Park Ji-hong, Director General of the Transportation and Logistics Office at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "This meeting, held for the first time in 8 years, is an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of cooperation between Korea and Japan," adding, "We hope that continuous exchanges for the future will continue based on this cooperative relationship."
