Pohang Mayor Lee Gang-deok Innovates Local Medical Capacity ... "Overcoming the Crisis of Regional Disappearance"

On the 15th, Lee Gang-deok, Mayor of Pohang, gave a special lecture titled "2024 City Administration Direction and Regional Medical Innovation Plan" to over 200 employees of Pohang Medical Center at the main auditorium of Pohang Medical Center.

"Overcoming the Crisis of Regional Disappearance" Mayor Lee Gang-deok of Pohang is giving a special lecture on the theme of "2024 City Administration Operation Direction and Regional Medical Innovation Plan" at the Pohang Medical Center auditorium on the 15th.

Before the lecture, Mayor Lee expressed his gratitude to the staff of Pohang Medical Center for their active efforts in advancing regional healthcare and for their dedication in protecting citizens' lives by leading the infectious disease response headquarters during the COVID-19 crisis.


In the subsequent lecture, Mayor Lee explained the major priority projects currently being promoted to actively foster national advanced strategic industries such as batteries, hydrogen, bio, AI, and big data, aiming to develop Pohang into an East Coast balanced development hub city leading the local era of South Korea.


He also emphasized that the establishment of the POSTECH Medical School to train physician-scientists will realize bio-national defense that drives the global competitiveness of the national bio-industry and serve as a model for balanced development to overcome the crisis of local extinction.


Mayor Lee stated, “We will carefully manage public healthcare that meets citizens’ expectations by responding to the super-aged society, bridging the urban-rural medical gap, and establishing a new infectious disease crisis response system. I hope Pohang Medical Center will join us in innovating regional healthcare through strengthening capabilities in critical care and public healthcare and opening the era of local autonomy.”


Since June 2021, Pohang City has signed a business agreement with Pohang Medical Center for the pilot project of home medical benefits and the establishment of a public health medical cooperation system, continuously striving for smooth project execution and mutual cooperation and development.
