Gwangyang 'Baegun-gi National High School Soccer Tournament' Kicks Off

From the 15th to the 29th at Gwangyang, Madong, and Gwangyeong Stadiums

The 25th Baegun-gi National High School Soccer Tournament is underway from the 15th to the 29th of this month, with 40 prestigious high school soccer teams from across the country competing over 15 days at six venues, including Gwangyang Public Stadium, in a fierce battle for the championship.

This tournament is jointly hosted by the Korea Football Association and the Gwangyang City Sports Council, and organized by the Jeonnam Football Association and the Gwangyang City Football Association. With the participation of many of the nation's top high school soccer teams, it will determine the undisputed champion of high school soccer.

The opening match between Jeju United U18 and Cheonan Soccer Center U18 kicked off on the 15th at Gwangyang Soccer Dedicated Stadium 1, and over the next 15 days, a total of 79 matches will be played, including 60 preliminary matches (group stage) and 19 final matches (tournament).

All matches will be broadcast live on Gwangyang City's official YouTube channel, ‘Gwangyang City Hall TV’.

Jung In-hwa, Mayor of Gwangyang, said, “I sincerely welcome all the teams participating in the 25th Baegun-gi National High School Soccer Tournament,” and added, “I would like to thank the Korea Football Association, Gwangyang City Sports Council, and Gwangyang City Football Association officials for their support and preparation of this tournament.”

He continued, “I hope that in the spirit of fair competition, without a single injury, all players will fully demonstrate the skills they have honed and achieve great results.”

Meanwhile, Gwangyang City has deployed volunteers at the six venues to assist with match operations and visitor guidance during the tournament. They also plan to thoroughly inspect and guide hospitality and food service establishments on friendliness and hygiene management to ensure the participating teams have no inconveniences.
