[One Day 10,000 Steps One Day 1,000 Characters] Themed 'Walking' Events, from Baeguijonggun-gil to Jeju Olle-gil

Not Only Health Care but Also Culture and Tourism

While many local governments host 'walking events,' programs offering unique experiences tailored to regional characteristics are drawing attention. These walks are not just for health management but also provide opportunities to experience culture and tourism.

Asan City in Chungnam Province will hold the 'Art Valley Asan 63rd Seongung Yi Sun-sin Festival' on April 24. Over five days, events will take place at Yi Sun-sin Sports Complex, Onyang Oncheon Station, Gokgyocheon Ginkgo Tree Road, and the Hyeonchungsa Shrine area, featuring the 'Baekui Jonggun-gil Walking Competition' and a marathon. The festival content focuses on 'Yi Sun-sin.'


Last year, the 'Baekui Jonggun-gil Walking Competition' and 'Baekui Jonggun-gil Marathon' were held, with approximately 3,300 and 5,500 participants respectively. During this period, about 60,000 people visited Hyeonchungsa Shrine, averaging around 20,000 visitors per day.


This year, in addition to these two programs, a variety of performances and experiential events such as the 'General Yi Sun-sin Departure Parade,' 'Military Band Ceremony Festival,' and the '1st Art Valley Asan General Yi Sun-sin National Rowing Competition' will be held. Jo Il-gyo, the head of the practical promotion team, said, "Following last year's major festival overhaul, this year's festival aims to achieve a twofold effect of providing diverse attractions and revitalizing the local economy."


In Seogwipo City, Jeju, from March to November this year, the Seogwipo Walking Association will operate a differentiated walking event called the 'Seogwipo Citizens' Health Walking Experience Program with Fun and Themes.' It is characterized by adding fun and themes to activate local residents' participation in walking and increase walking practice rates.


This program, which adds fun by walking hidden paths throughout Seogwipo City and various themes, will be held every Saturday during the period. Course schedules and locations are announced on the 10th of each month. The health walking experience program, conducted under four themes?'Healing, Trekking, Nordic Walking, and Plogging'?involves walking courses tailored to regional characteristics in Seogwipo's eastern urban area and eup-myeon areas (east and west) with walking instructors.


A Seogwipo City official said, "We hope the health walking experience events will be a valuable time to learn about proper walking and discover the beautiful hidden paths throughout Seogwipo City."
