The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 16th that it held the 2nd Steering Committee meeting of the 'Extended Reality (XR) Convergence Industry Alliance' at the headquarters of Retinal, an augmented reality (AR) optical module developer.
XR refers to immersive technologies that connect the real and digital virtual worlds, including virtual reality (VR), AR, and mixed reality (MR). The XR industry is a high value-added convergence industry expected to grow rapidly, and to strengthen domestic industrial competitiveness, it is essential to establish a convergence and organic cooperation system among XR device-core components-service companies (content, software, etc.).

Accordingly, since June last year, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has been operating the XR Convergence Industry Alliance, which includes major companies, associations, and support organizations across the entire XR ecosystem.
At the event, recent XR industry trends such as the launch of Apple's Vision Pro were analyzed, and based on this, cooperation measures for revitalizing XR industry-academia-research exchanges, expanding commercialization, and global market entry were discussed.
The companies attending the meeting proposed ▲ establishing a technology exchange foundation among different industries such as semiconductors, displays, and optics ▲ fostering convergence-type talent with core XR element technologies ▲ supporting demonstration projects based on domestic XR devices.
Lee Seung-ryeol, Director of Industrial Policy, stated, "For the domestic XR ecosystem to be activated, active investment by companies and lively exchanges and cooperation among device, component, and content industries are essential," adding, "The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy will continue to support the development of core component technologies such as ultra-high-resolution microdisplays and optical modules, nurture master's and doctoral-level personnel in VR and AR fields, and promote business model development and demonstration project support linked to demand industries such as manufacturing, energy, and healthcare."
