Apply for Various Childcare Services in Dongdaemun-gu, a "Great City to Raise Children"~

Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 16th that it will implement various childcare support services in line with Seoul City, including the Seoul Mom and Dad Taxi and Seoul-style Childcare Subsidy.

The ‘Seoul Mom and Dad Taxi,’ which officially started on the 23rd of last month, was piloted last year in 16 autonomous districts including Dongdaemun-gu and has been expanded to all districts this year.

The ‘Seoul Mom and Dad Taxi’ is a service that helps transport children and their guardians in large vans when going out to places such as hospitals or pharmacies. It provides taxi vouchers worth 100,000 KRW per infant under 24 months old.

The vehicle interior is equipped with KC-certified car seats, air purifiers with sterilization functions, hand sanitizers, and droplet protection screens. For newborns under 6 months, newborn car seats are also provided by reservation.

Applications can be made through the i.M (I.M) Taxi mobile app, and not only parents but anyone who is actually raising an infant under 24 months can apply. After applying, the district office verifies eligibility and upon approval, taxi vouchers worth 100,000 KRW per infant are immediately issued in the form of points. If digital access is difficult, such as for digital vulnerable groups, they can visit their local community service center to apply for taxi use points in person, and taxis can be called by phone when using the service.

Along with the ‘Mom and Dad Taxi,’ the district is promoting various childcare support projects. The ‘Seoul-style Household Service’ provides housekeeping services such as cleaning, laundry, and organizing for pregnant women with a median income of 150% or less, dual-income families, and families with multiple children.

Applications can be made through the Seoul-style Household Service website.

Additionally, to support families experiencing childcare gaps, the ‘Seoul-style Childcare Subsidy’ provides vouchers for childcare helpers from private service agencies or monthly childcare fees ranging from 300,000 to 600,000 KRW.

The target beneficiaries are families with infants aged 24 to 36 months, with a median income of 150% or less, who are dual-income, single-parent, or multiple-child families experiencing childcare gaps. Detailed information and applications are available on the Mongttang Information Universal Key (umppa.seoul.go.kr).

Starting this year, support is also provided for ‘First Childcare Subsidy upon Second Childbirth.’ Families experiencing childcare gaps for existing children under 12 years old due to the birth of a second or subsequent child will receive 90-100% of the childcare service co-payment, up to 1 million KRW per household within 90 days after childbirth.

From January 1 of this year, the ‘Seoul-style Multiple Birth Safety Insurance’ is also provided for multiple births residing in Seoul. Enrollment is automatic upon moving to Seoul and automatically canceled upon moving to other cities or provinces. It covers up to 30 million KRW for 17 items including emergency room visits and infectious disease diagnosis fees, and claims can be made through the Meritz Fire & Marine Insurance website.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “In line with Seoul City’s ‘Mom and Dad Happiness Project,’ we will continue our unwavering efforts to create a ‘Child-Friendly Dongdaemun-gu’ this year by supporting customized services for each stage of pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare.”
