Within 40 Minutes from Daegu to Uiseong Possible
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that, based on the preliminary feasibility study results of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport Metropolitan Express Railway, it has prepared an optimal project plan and applied for a preliminary feasibility study to the Ministry of Economy and Finance on the 15th.
This is the first follow-up measure promoted as part of the 'Introduction of Local Area Metropolitan Express Railway (? -TX)' announced at the sixth public livelihood discussion hosted by the President on the 25th of last month ('30-minute commuting era', 'elimination of transportation disparity').
On the 2nd, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Park Sang-woo visited Seodaegu Station to conduct an on-site inspection of the metropolitan railway in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk area, stating, “We will establish a foundation for the Gyeongbuk area centered on Daegu to grow into a mega city and develop as a regional hub responding to the metropolitan area,” and added, “We are focusing on metropolitan railway projects that quickly connect regions as core projects to realize mega cities in Daegu, Gyeongbuk, and other local metropolitan areas.”
The Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport Metropolitan Express Railway, connecting 'Daegu City - New Airport - Uiseong County,' is the first project to deploy GTX vehicles with a maximum speed of 180 km/h on a locally funded metropolitan railway.
Upon opening, travel from Daegu to the New Airport will be possible within 30 minutes. Currently, the Daegu-Uiseong section takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes by train and 1 hour and 10 minutes by car, but this project will reduce travel time to within 40 minutes. If this project passes the preliminary feasibility study by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, it will proceed through basic planning, design, and implementation plan approval before construction begins.
Baek Won-guk, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, “Through the prompt promotion of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Integrated New Airport and its connected transportation network, the New Airport Metropolitan Express Railway, we will actively support Daegu and Gyeongbuk to be realized as a hyper-connected metropolitan economic living zone and grow into a mega city.”
