High-End Hair Dryer Stolen from Apartment Women's Sauna
Opposition to Mid-Range Replacement... Ultimately Replaced with 100,000-Won Model
Combs Provided in Both Men's and Women's Saunas All Stolen
It has become a hot topic that expensive hair dryers provided in the women's sauna of a newly built apartment in Gangnam are being replaced with relatively inexpensive hair dryers due to frequent thefts. Previously, the apartment management announced that lost hair dryers would be replaced with mid-range models, but it was later revealed that residents opposed this and the dryers were replaced with high-end models priced around 100,000 won. It is also known that the items stolen from the sauna by residents were not limited to hair dryers.

On the 15th, a post titled "Current Status of Gangnam Apartment Sauna" was uploaded on an online community. The post followed an announcement from the 14th stating that the Dyson hair dryers (Supersonic), worth about 500,000 won, in the women's sauna of a newly built apartment in Gangnam were being replaced with mid-range products due to frequent thefts. According to the attached notice in the earlier post, the men's sauna in the same apartment also had the same model of hair dryers as the women's sauna, but there were no thefts reported there. Netizens responded negatively with comments such as "The beggar mentality never goes away" and "Not everyone living in Gangnam is well-off."
This hair dryer theft incident, which became a hot topic online, seemed to conclude with the replacement by mid-range hair dryers. However, a review post uploaded on the 15th reignited the controversy. The Korean-made Unix hair dryers installed to replace the stolen ones were removed due to poor performance and replaced again with another high-end hair dryer.

On a residents-only cafe for the apartment, a post titled "Can we use a product other than Unix hair dryers?" attracted much attention. Resident A said, "The Unix dryers currently installed perform very poorly. Even today, some people sighed after using the Unix dryer. I even saw people lining up to use the Dyson dryer." He added, "We are not asking for expensive dryers, but when purchasing additional hair dryers in the future, please buy ones with higher power output." Consequently, the apartment agreed to replace the Unix dryers with JWM dryers. While the Unix dryer is relatively inexpensive at around 30,000 won, the JWM dryer is a high-end model priced at about 110,000 won, three times the price of the Unix dryer.
"Not only women stole... all combs disappeared from men's sauna too"
Status table of Dyson hair dryers placed in the sauna of a newly built apartment located in Gangnam. In the men's sauna, the initial number installed and the current stock are the same, but in the women's sauna, the current stock has decreased due to 7 thefts and 6 repairs. The controversy does not end there. After it was revealed that Dyson hair dryers were only stolen from the women's sauna, posts disparaging women appeared on online communities and social media platforms. However, posts in the residents' community show that the stolen items were not limited to hair dryers. While hair dryers were stolen from the women's sauna, all combs were stolen from the men's sauna.
Resident B, living in the apartment, said, "The combs on the men's side are nowhere to be seen. Personally, I think it might be better if people bring their own combs." In response, the community manager said, "Combs have disappeared from both the men's and women's saunas. In fact, shared combs are not hygienic, and seeing that many other apartments have removed them, we initially did not want to provide them. However, due to complaints about inconvenience, we placed good-quality combs. Soon after, they all disappeared. Therefore, we are considering not providing combs separately in the future and encouraging everyone to bring and use their own."
