Hyundai Movex R&D Center, Power Supply Solely by Solar Energy

Hyundai Movex announced on the 15th that it will introduce solar power generation facilities at its Cheongna Research and Development (R&D) Center.

At a recent extraordinary board meeting, it was decided to build solar power facilities covering an area of 2,563㎡. With a target completion in August, installation of canopy-type (157 kW class) and rooftop-type (389 kW class) panels will begin this month. The annual electricity production is expected to be around 660,000 kWh, which corresponds to the average monthly electricity consumption of approximately 1,600 households. The company anticipates that the carbon reduction will amount to 3,500 tons per year, equivalent to planting about 14,000 oak trees.

The hybrid facility, combining private and commercial use, will cover all the electricity needs for center operations, while surplus power can be sold externally. It is expected to generate revenue from power generation. The company forecasts that achieving RE100 (supplying 100% of workplace electricity from renewable energy) as part of its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management is feasible.

Hyundai Movex, a Hyundai Group affiliate engaged in smart logistics, information technology (IT) services, and platform screen door (PSD) business, opened its R&D center in Cheongna in 2019. In December of last year, senior executives from the Saudi Arabian Industrial Property Authority visited to discuss future cooperation plans.
