Polytechnic University, Employment Rate of 'Shinjungnyeon' Trainees Over 40 at 63%

Employment Rate of Specialized Courses for Middle-aged Settled at 60% Range
Recruitment of Trainees in the First Half of This Year

Korea Polytechnic University announced on the 15th that the employment rate of graduates from the Senior Specialized Course in the first half of last year was 62.8%.


The Senior Specialized Course provides 3 to 6 months of vocational training necessary for career change and reemployment to middle-aged and older adults aged 40 and above. Last year, the largest age group among trainees was those in their 50s at 40.5%, followed by those aged 60 and above (35.8%) and those in their 40s (23.7%).


During the same period, the gender ratio showed that males accounted for 78.9%, more than females. The employment rate was 60.6% for males and 69.6% for females, with females having a higher employment rate. By age group, the employment rates were 73.9% for those in their 40s, 64.7% for those in their 50s, and 55.8% for those aged 60 and above.

This year, Polytechnic University will operate the Senior Specialized Course for 2,550 middle-aged and older adults in fields such as equipment management, construction machinery, and welding.


In response to the digital transformation of industries, training that combines traditional industries with information and communication technology (ICT), such as future-oriented automobiles and IT convergence electrical facility construction management, will be conducted for the first time to help trainees acquire changing job competencies.


In collaboration with the Korea Labor Foundation, the linkage between the foundation’s career transition support services and vocational training will be strengthened. Users of the foundation’s career transition support services can explore vocational training fields through Polytechnic University’s Kkumdeulim Workshop.


During the Kkumdeulim Workshop vocational experience week held last month, 248 middle-aged and older adults participated. By experiencing the Kkumdeulim Workshop, participants can set their career transition direction and, by joining the Senior Specialized Course vocational training, receive not only technical education but also the foundation’s life career planning and reemployment consulting.
