Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a bill on the 13th (local time) allowing the confiscation of assets from individuals who deliberately spread false information about the country's military.
The bill includes provisions to seize money or property from those convicted of activities against Russian security or actions that undermine the military's credibility through fake news as a form of punishment.
However, not all assets of individuals convicted of such acts will be confiscated. Only assets obtained through criminal means or used in activities against Russian security are subject to seizure.
The bill, posted on the Russian legal information website on the same day, is scheduled to take effect in ten days.
