On the 14th, Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that the 'Gwangju Memory of Chungjang Festival' has been selected as an 'Honorary Cultural Tourism Festival' designated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The designation of 'Honorary Cultural Tourism Festival' is intended to select 20 outstanding festivals nationwide that have been held for more than 10 years, in order to foster and develop them into sustainable global festivals by strengthening their competitiveness.
With this selection as an 'Honorary Cultural Tourism Festival,' Dong-gu has secured priority application qualifications for major support projects such as ▲festival evaluation and big data analysis ▲festival academy and conference ▲domestic and international promotional marketing ▲festival consulting and professional workforce training, providing significant momentum to advance into a global festival.
Last year's 20th 'Gwangju Memory of Chungjang Festival,' which marked its coming of age, captivated domestic and international visitors with a rich lineup of performance programs including the killer content Fire Art Parade, Masquerade, and Memory of Go-Go Night, as well as diverse citizen participation programs such as Memory of Flour Play, Alley of Banquets, and Life's Greatest Boulevard.
During last year's festival period, over 1.06 million people (according to KT big data aggregation) visited the festival site, contributing greatly to the revival of the old downtown and the revitalization of the local economy through successful festival hosting, tourist attraction, and noticeable economic ripple effects.
Furthermore, the Chungjang Festival received high praise for evolving into a win-win community festival where local residents and tourists breathe together, as a result of efforts to grow into ▲a grand festival completed by the unity of local residents ▲a safe and sustainable ESG festival ▲a global festival that transcends generations and borders to deliver memories and joy to people worldwide.
A Dong-gu official stated, "With this designation as an 'Honorary Cultural Tourism Festival,' the foundation for the Gwangju Memory of Chungjang Festival to grow into a global festival has become even stronger," adding, "Based on past achievements, we will make every effort to further develop the 21st Chungjang Festival this year to become the center of K-Culture and a representative global festival of the Republic of Korea."
