8 Winners Awarded Best and Excellent in Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Engineering Fields

The Graduate School of Dong-A University (Dean Park Sang-won) held the ‘2023 Graduate Student Excellent Thesis Award Ceremony.’

Dong-A University Holds 'Graduate Student Excellent Thesis Award Ceremony' Donga University held an award ceremony for outstanding graduate student theses.

Dong-A University annually awards excellent thesis prizes to encourage graduate students' research motivation and expand their achievements.

For currently enrolled and completed students of the general graduate school, papers published in A&HCI, SSCI-level, or Korea Research Foundation indexed journals or higher in the humanities, social sciences, and business fields, and SCI(E)-level or higher journals in the science and engineering fields were invited. Winners were selected through evaluations by a panel of judges for each field.

The award ceremony was held recently at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in Songdo, Busan, during the ‘4th Phase BK21 Graduate School Innovation Project Conference.’

In the humanities and social sciences fields, three recipients of the Excellence Award were selected. ▲ Huang Shan (Department of Management Information Systems, advisor Professor Park Byung-kwon), ‘ConGPS; Smart Container Positioning System Using Low-Frequency GPS, Inertial Sensors, and Electronic Maps’ ▲ Han Mi-ok (Department of Physical Education, advisor Professor Jeon Hyung-pil), ‘Injury Incidence and Characteristics of Korean Youth and University Taekwondo Sparring Athletes: A Retrospective Study’ ▲ Lee Seok-gyun (Department of Korean Language and Literature, advisor Professor Lee Guk-hwan), ‘A Study on Reading Programs in Junior College Libraries - Focusing on the G University Library Book Club ‘Gaya (GAYA)’’ were awarded.

In the natural sciences field, one recipient each of the Grand Prize and Excellence Award were selected.

Graduate student Kim Hye-ran (Department of Translational Medical Science, advisor Professor Park Hwan-tae) received the Grand Prize for her paper ‘Sarm1 Inhibition Ameliorates Axonal Neuropathy Induced by Autophagy Stress,’ published in the journal ‘AUTOPHAGY,’ ranked in the top 9.9% of JCR journals.

Graduate student Sung Min-jung (Department of Physics, advisor Professor Moon Han-eol) received the Excellence Award for the paper ‘Characteristics of DBD-Based Unipolar Microsecond Pulse Helium Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Jet and the Effect of Operating Parameters on Liquid Treatment.’

In the engineering field, one Grand Prize and two Excellence Awards were selected.

Graduate student Song Man-sung (Department of Chemical Engineering, advisor Professor Yang Soo-chul) received the Grand Prize for the study ‘Improved Magneto-Mechanical-Electrical Responsiveness of P(VDF-TrFE)-CNC@CoFe2O4 Nanofiber Composite-Based Non-Contact Energy Harvester.’ Song had published papers last year in journals ranked in the top 7.5% and 10.1% of JCR journal rankings.

The Excellence Awards went to graduate students John Mark Payawal (Department of ICT Convergence Marine Smart City Engineering, advisor Professor Kim Dong-geon, ‘Seismic Performance Evaluation of Single-Plate Metal Slit Dampers Using Experimental and Numerical Data’) and Julfikshan Ahmad Mukti (advisor Professor Ki Sung-hoon, ‘Evaluation of Early Concrete Damage Caused by Steel Corrosion Due to Chlorides Using an RNN-Based Deep Learning Approach for Ultrasonic Pulse Waves’).

Graduate student Song Man-sung, who received the Grand Prize in the engineering field, said, “I am grateful to my advisor who provided autonomous research opportunities for over three years from my undergraduate research student days through my master's program. Thanks to the support of my department and university, I was able to achieve valuable results. I will continue to strive to become a more advanced researcher and scientist to help juniors as well.”

Dean Park Sang-won of the Graduate School said, “I extend my congratulations and encouragement to the graduate students’ achievements. We will continue to strengthen support for outstanding students to foster a research atmosphere in the graduate school and further enhance research capabilities.”
