Expansion of Screenings to 37 Cities Abroad
"Impressed by Dedication and Courage for Democracy"
The film commemorating the 100th anniversary of President Kim Dae-jung's birth, 'Gilwie Kim Dae-jung' (Kim Dae-jung on the Road), will be released in the United States on the 16th.
On the 14th, the production company Myung Films announced that 'Gilwie Kim Dae-jung' will be screened at CGV Buena Park in the U.S. on the 16th and at LA CGV the following day, the 17th.
The 'Gilwie Kim Dae-jung' Overseas Screening Committee has been continuing screenings for overseas Koreans. Starting on January 6, President Kim Dae-jung's birthday, in Johannesburg, South Africa, followed by Washington, U.S. on January 7; Tokyo and Osaka, Japan on January 12; Frankfurt, Germany and Vancouver, Canada on January 13; and San Diego on January 15. Additionally, screenings were held in Santiago, Chile on January 16; Manila, Philippines on January 17; Beijing, China on January 18; Sendai, Japan; Jakarta, Indonesia; Amsterdam, Netherlands; S?o Paulo, Brazil on January 20; Cochabamba, Bolivia on January 22; and Sydney, Australia on January 28. This is the first time a documentary film has held screenings simultaneously in South America in three countries along with domestic screenings.
Screenings continued overseas in February as well. On the 3rd in Auckland, on the 8th in Jakarta, and upcoming screenings on the 16th in Denver, U.S.; the 17th in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; the 18th in San Francisco and Toronto; the 24th in San Jose and Berlin; the 26th in Hamburg; and on March 9th in Brisbane.
The film company stated, "'Gilwie Kim Dae-jung' initially planned to hold screenings in 30 cities, but due to unprecedented voluntary screenings organized by overseas Koreans, the number increased to 37. This reflects the deep empathy and strong emotional response overseas Koreans have for President Kim Dae-jung's life and his passion for democracy."
Audience members who attended the screenings shared through the distributor, "I did not know much about former President Kim Dae-jung, but through the film, I had a meaningful time learning about his life and achievements," and "I was deeply moved by his dedication and courage for democracy and his efforts for peace."
'Gilwie Kim Dae-jung' depicts the journey of Kim Dae-jung, who started as a young entrepreneur and endured numerous hardships to grow into a politician, culminating in his candidacy for the 1987 presidential election. The film uses a vast amount of archival materials, previously unreleased footage, and interviews with those who witnessed historic moments. Since its release on the 10th of last month, it has attracted 120,000 viewers and garnered significant attention.
