Care for Basic Livelihood Security Recipients, Low-Income Families, and Single-Parent Families: Up to 10 Days per Pet, Up to 20 Days for Long-Term Hospitalization
Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) operates the ‘Our Neighborhood Pet Boarding Service’ that cares for pets for up to 20 days for socially vulnerable groups.
‘Our Neighborhood Pet Boarding Service’ is a program that supports the boarding costs for companion dogs and cats, targeting socially vulnerable groups such as basic livelihood security recipients, lower-income households, and single-parent families.
The support cost is 50,000 KRW per day for companion cats, and 30,000 to 50,000 KRW per day for companion dogs (▲under 4kg: 30,000 KRW ▲4 to under 20kg: 40,000 KRW ▲20kg or more: 50,000 KRW). The boarding period is up to 10 days per pet, but can be extended up to 20 days if long-term hospitalization is required.
This year, the designated location for Our Neighborhood Pet Boarding Service is a dog cafe located in Suyu 2-dong (Kkotboda Gae, 1103 Hancheon-ro, Gangbuk-gu, 2nd floor). Residents wishing to use the service must submit the Our Neighborhood Pet Boarding Service application form, a copy of their ID, a copy of the animal registration certificate, and proof of social vulnerability to the Gangbuk-gu Pet Boarding Service or the Gangbuk-gu Regional Economy Division (1035 Hancheon-ro, 7th floor, Gangbuk-gu). However, companion dogs must be registered, and any costs exceeding the support period must be borne by the owner.
For more details about the pet boarding service, inquiries can be made to the Gangbuk-gu Regional Economy Division.
Mayor Lee Soon-hee of Gangbuk-gu said, “Through this program, I hope to alleviate the economic burden of vulnerable groups living with companion animals even a little,” and added, “In the era of 10 million pet owners, we will take the lead in creating a pet culture where both pet owners and non-pet owners are respected.”
