Targeting October Completion, Seoul City Secures Municipal Funding After Winning Public Contest and Gains Momentum
Approximately 1.7km Section from Bukaksan Trail Behind Chilgung to Baegakjeong, Passing Cheongwadae Chunuchgwan and Samcheongdong Entrance... Focused on Creating Viewing Spaces, Renovating Rest Areas, and Applying Integrated Design
Jongno-gu (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) will officially begin the 'Cheongwadae-Baegak Walking Exploration Course Landscape Improvement Project' in March, aiming for completion in October 2024.
This project focuses on renovating old and worn-out facilities and applying a unified design to the exploration paths and rest areas to ensure that citizens and tourists can comfortably walk and tour the Cheongwadae and Baegaksan areas.
The target area covers approximately 1.7 km, starting from the back path of Chilgung on the Bukaksan trail, passing Baegakjeong, and reaching the Cheongwadae Chunghugwan and the entrance of Samcheong-dong.
The total cost is 1 billion KRW, with Jongno-gu securing 500 million KRW from the Seoul city government through a public contest and adding another 500 million KRW from the district budget. The construction will be divided into three main areas: 'Creation of Viewing Spaces,' 'Creation and Maintenance of Rest Areas,' and 'Application of Integrated Design.'
First, the creation of viewing spaces will focus on installing small observatories and developing walking tour courses to create spaces where visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Bukaksan and Inwangsan.
The creation and maintenance of rest areas will enhance visitor convenience by building small shelters on steep sections of the trail and repairing old and worn staircases.
The application of integrated design aims to unify public facilities, including guide signs and signboards.
Jongno-gu held the final design briefing for this project in December last year, and it is expected that once the construction of the Baegak-Cheongwadae-Gyeongbokgung section is completed in October this year, a walking tour course embodying the identity of Jongno will be born.
District Mayor Jeong Munheon stated, “We will implement a landscape improvement project that fully utilizes the historical and cultural background of Bukaksan to develop a pleasant, safe, and uniquely Jongno tourism course.”
