[One Day Walk] 'Pocheon 15 Course' Capturing the Scenery of Sanjeong Lake at a Glance

The Gyeonggi Dullegil ‘Pocheon Course 15’ starts from Uncheon Terminal and passes through Munam Samgeori, Sanjeong 2 Bridge, in front of Hanwha Sanjeong Lake Resort, Herb Wildflower Village, and Sanjeong Lake Park. The total distance is 8.6 km, with an estimated duration of 3 hours. The difficulty level is ‘medium’.

Uncheon is a village known as ‘a place where the water is so clear that the clouds flowing in the sky appear to be submerged in the water.’ It is also the gateway to the path leading to Sanjeong Lake. The stamp at the starting point, Uncheon Terminal, features a picture of Myeongseongsan. The old name of Myeongseongsan is known as Uleumsan (Crying Mountain). According to legend, in 935, when Silla fell, Ma Eui Taeja, the son of King Gyeongsun, headed toward Geumgangsan but stopped at Myeongseongsan, where he wept bitterly over the loss of his country and his own fate. It is said that the mountain also ‘cried’ along with him, and since then it has been called Uleumsan. Notable attractions include Biseon, Deungnyong, and Ijeong Waterfalls, Chaekbawi (Book Rock), and the Silver Grass Ridge.

After stamping the starting point, you walk along Busocheon, a stream flowing with water from Sanjeong Lake. Although there is a sidewalk, some sections require walking on the road. The name Busocheon comes from the ‘Gamaso Waterfall’ located in the stream’s watershed. ‘Bu’ means cauldron. At the confluence where Busocheon meets the Hantan River, there is the Meonguri Gorge.

As you walk, you will soon arrive at Sanjeong Lake. It is recommended to pause for a moment and take some photos. Sanjeong Lake is a tourist attraction that Pocheon is proud of, showcasing Myeongseongsan and beautiful scenery. Walking around Sanjeong Lake along the trail, you can find the stone wall hospital, a filming location for the drama ‘Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim.’

At the destination, Sanjeong Lake Park, be sure to stamp the ‘Myeongseongsan Silver Grass Flower’ stamp. The approximately 60,000-pyeong (about 198,000 square meters) silver grass field located on Myeongseongsan is considered one of the top five silver grass flower clusters in the country. Every October, the Myeongseongsan Silver Grass Flower Festival is held. The one-way distance from Sanjeong Lake to the silver grass flower cluster is about 4 km, and it takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes to hike up the mountain trail.
