Selected as Private Contractor for Two Consecutive Years
Promoting Digitization of Luxor Museum Artifacts and More
Korea National University of Cultural Heritage announced on the 13th that it has been selected as the private contractor for the Egypt Cultural Heritage Preservation and Management Support Project for the second consecutive year. The university contributes to the sustainable development of the international community by supporting the enhancement of Egypt's cultural heritage preservation and management capabilities and spreading Korean-style cultural heritage-related technologies.
The Egypt Cultural Heritage Preservation and Management Support Project is one of the Official Development Assistance (ODA) projects promoted by the Cultural Heritage Administration. Korea National University of Cultural Heritage was entrusted with the project by the Cultural Heritage Administration in April last year and achieved various results. These include collecting background information on the Ramesseum and planning visitor routes, planning digital content production for the Luxor Museum, 3D modeling of the Ramesseum pylon, planning and negotiating the creation of digital content for exhibition spaces at the Luxor Museum, analyzing the status and artifacts for documentation in the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities database, analyzing artifacts requiring urgent preservation, and obtaining the first-ever copyright permission for data.
This year, with a project budget of 5.2 billion KRW, efforts will be made to preserve, manage, utilize, and restore the Luxor cultural heritage. An intelligent (smart) exhibition design for cultural heritage will be established, and digitization of artifacts held by the Luxor Museum will be promoted. Additionally, digital documentation for the restoration of the Ramesseum pylon (including actual measurement, ground safety diagnosis, structural stability review, and 3D modeling) will be conducted, along with joint research on digital heritage acquisition guidelines, digitalization of documentary heritage, and production of exhibition materials.
