Gyeonggi Province will support the installation costs of optimal prevention facilities for small-scale businesses (manufacturing) to resolve chronic air pollution and odor complaints.

On the 12th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will carry out the "Prevention Facility Installation Support Project," which provides 90% of the costs for installing or replacing outdated prevention facilities and installing Internet of Things (IoT) measuring devices for air pollutant emission facilities in types 4 to 5 businesses. To this end, Gyeonggi Province has secured 33.5 billion KRW from national and provincial funds.

Applications will be accepted starting this month and will close once the budget is exhausted.

In addition to this project, Gyeonggi Province will also promote ▲ Small-scale business prevention facility maintenance support project (1.5 billion KRW) ▲ Environmental technology support project (Environmental Doctor System) (40 million KRW) ▲ Air pollution prevention facility repainting support project (10 million KRW).

There are 19,436 air pollution emission businesses in the province, of which 96%, or 18,708, are small-scale and micro businesses. These businesses lack professional environmental managers with environmental technology qualifications and face difficulties operating air pollution prevention facilities due to the burden of facility and operating costs.

Accordingly, Gyeonggi Province plans to prioritize areas with numerous complaints and support the entire management process of air pollution prevention facilities tailored to the conditions of businesses lacking financial and technical capabilities, thereby eliminating environmental management blind spots.

Furthermore, along with technical and financial support, the province will strengthen the environmental management capabilities of businesses by providing on-site diagnosis and consultation by experts such as environmental engineers to guide problem-solving methods suitable for each business.

Earlier, to effectively regulate and support environmental pollution emissions, Gyeonggi Province established the Climate and Environment Management Division last month.

Kim Sang-cheol, head of the Climate and Environment Management Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "Voluntary efforts by companies are most important to reduce air pollutant emissions from small-scale businesses," adding, "Considering that the seasonal management system for special air quality management is in effect until the end of March, Gyeonggi Province will actively promote customized management support for small-scale micro businesses."
