Gwangjin-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) announced on the 12th that it will expand the operation of the "Resident Life Safety Insurance," which supports compensation for damages caused by various disasters and safety accidents.
This year, the limit for funeral expenses due to accidental death has been raised to 20 million KRW. Previously, support was provided up to 10 million KRW, but the coverage amount has been doubled to enhance effectiveness.
Medical expenses for children's traffic accidents are also newly covered. If a child under 12 years old is involved in an accident while walking, compensation will be paid differentially up to a maximum of 500,000 KRW per person according to the automobile accident injury grade table (grades 1 to 14).
In addition, up to 1 million KRW can be claimed for accidental medical expenses, and up to 10 million KRW for permanent disability caused by injury. However, coverage related to industrial accidents, other liability insurance, and government disaster relief funds are excluded.
Anyone registered as a resident in Gwangjin-gu can receive support. Enrollment is automatic upon moving in without any separate procedures, and the insurance is canceled upon moving out. The coverage period lasts until the end of this year, and claims must be made within three years from the date of the accident.
Residents who wish to receive compensation should submit the required documents directly to the insurance company. Detailed information can be found at the Resident Life Safety Insurance Consultation Center or on the Gwangjin-gu website.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "I hope that residents who experience sudden accidents can safely return to their daily lives with the help of life safety insurance," and added, "We will establish a strong protection system to minimize damage in unexpected situations."
