Kim Kyung-ho, Current Mayor of Gwangjin-gu and Former Deputy Mayor, Baek Ho, President of Seoul Metro, Yoon Jong-jang, Director of Seoul City Urban Transportation, and Park Dae-woo, Deputy Mayor of Gangseo-gu, Continue Good Deeds, Drawing Attention
The Seoul Gwangjin District Office building is a historic structure completed in 1967. Notably, this building was formerly the training center of the old Republican Party and has been used as the district office to this day.
Because of this, the building is old and cramped, causing considerable hardship for the staff.
However, the large trees planted around the main office building reach toward the sky, making the area a popular resting spot for local residents during the summer.
It is noteworthy that the Gwangjin District Office site seems to be a lucky spot, as deputy district heads who have passed through here have gone on to great success.
In particular, they have played a significant role under Mayor Oh Se-hoon of Seoul.
First, District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho is a public official who previously served as deputy district head of Gwangjin-gu and is one of the most successful cases.
After being appointed as deputy district head of Gwangjin-gu, a position typically held by a Grade 3 official, while he was a Grade 2 official (Director General) of Seoul City, he was promoted to Grade 1 as the Secretary-General of the Seoul Metropolitan Council after completing his term. Following his tenure as president of the Seoul Agricultural and Marine Products Corporation, he was appointed by Mayor Oh as the People Power Party’s regional chairman for Gwangjin-eul and subsequently won the election as the 8th popularly elected mayor of Gwangjin-gu.
Considering that it is rare for a public official who served as deputy district head to be elected as the district mayor of the same area, he is envied by high-ranking officials in Seoul City.
Since taking office, Mayor Kim has demonstrated strong leadership by eradicating power harassment and sexual harassment among district office executives, and has gained popularity by making efforts to communicate with lower-level public officials, unlike in the past.
He is especially regarded as a sincere district mayor by approaching residents with a humble attitude.
Baek Ho, president of Seoul Transportation Corporation, is a close aide of Mayor Oh Se-hoon and has thrived since Mayor Oh’s comeback after 10 years.
After serving as deputy district head of Gwangjin-gu, Baek held positions as head of the Seoul Waterworks Headquarters and director of the Seoul Urban Transportation Office. Last year, he was appointed president of the Transportation Corporation, Seoul’s largest subsidiary, where he has been praised as the best president in the corporation’s history due to his quick decision-making and strong execution.
President Baek especially demonstrates leadership by frequently visiting sites and communicating, which has increased staff awareness of safety.
He has also made efforts to establish law and order by strictly responding to illegal strikes by labor unions.
Yoon Jong-jang, director of the Seoul Urban Transportation Office, served as deputy district head of Gwangjin-gu before becoming head of the Future Hangang Headquarters and securing a key Grade 1 (Manager) position in Seoul City. He created the ‘Climate Companion Card,’ which gained early popularity.
Alongside this, Park Dae-woo, deputy district head of Gangseo-gu, previously served as deputy district head of Gwangjin-gu, then as Seoul City’s Economic and Job Planning Officer, before being appointed deputy district head of Gangseo-gu. He has earned good evaluations from staff for quietly managing affairs with strong leadership.
Gwangjin-gu is preparing steadily to end the era of its outdated district office building and welcome a new era with the new office building under construction near Guui Station on the subway, scheduled to open in the first half of next year.
