Medical Association Predicts General Strike, Elects Kim Taek-woo, President of Gangwon Medical Association, as Emergency Committee Chairperson

The Korean Medical Association (KMA) has elected Kim Taek-woo, president of the Gangwon Medical Association, as the chairman of the Emergency Response Committee to lead the struggle, amid the KMA's opposition to the government's plan to increase medical school quotas and its announcement of collective actions such as strikes.

According to industry sources on the 10th, the KMA Delegate Council's Steering Committee held an emergency online meeting yesterday afternoon and elected Kim Taek-woo, president of the Gangwon Medical Association, as the chairman of the Emergency Response Committee.

After the government announced on the 6th that it would increase the medical school quota by 2,000 students for the 2025 academic year college admissions, the KMA announced collective actions including a general strike and held an extraordinary delegate general meeting to approve the establishment of the Emergency Response Committee.

With the election of the Emergency Response Committee chairman completed, the KMA is expected to form the committee members soon and establish a plan for the struggle.
