Landslide in Mining Area... At Least 11 Dead and 31 Injured
A survivor was found two days after a landslide occurred in the southern mining area of the Philippines.
AFP reported on the 9th that disaster authorities in Davao de Oro Province on Mindanao Island in the south discovered a young girl survivor 60 hours after the accident. Rescuers dug through the dirt with their bare hands and shovels to find the girl and then transported her to a hospital. The child's health condition is currently reported to be good.

The authorities did not disclose the girl's age. Edward Macapili, an official from the Davao de Oro disaster authorities, called the rescue news "a miracle," saying, "Children usually have a lower survival rate than adults, but she survived, which gives hope to the rescue team."
Earlier, on the night of the 6th, a landslide occurred in the Philippines, killing at least 11 people, injuring 31, and leaving more than 100 missing. Dozens of houses were destroyed, and three 60-seat buses and one 36-seat jeepney waiting to pick up miners finishing work were buried under the debris.
Rescuers have even deployed search dogs at the accident site but are facing difficulties due to rain. Heavy rains have continued for several weeks on Mindanao Island. This has caused successive landslides, with at least 18 people confirmed dead last week.
The Philippines frequently experiences landslides in mountainous areas due to deforestation caused by mining development and logging, as well as heavy rains.
