Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) held the 'Gwanak-gu Future Education District Operation Committee Appointment Ceremony and 1st Meeting' on the 6th.
Started last year through an agreement with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, the Gwanak Future Education District is a regional education cooperation project aimed at supporting the development of future competencies of children and youth by providing various learning experiences utilizing local resources.
The Operation Committee consists of a total of 15 members (3 ex officio, 12 appointed), including the vice mayor as the chairman, public officials from the district and education support office, district council members, school principals and teachers, representatives of related organizations, and parents, representing various sectors of the local community.
The event began with the appointment ceremony, followed by a report on the 2023 achievements of the Gwanak Future Education District and a review of the 2024 business plan.
In 2024, the Gwanak Future Education District plans to invest a total of 970 million KRW (580 million KRW from the district budget, 390 million KRW from the education office budget) to focus on four areas and 18 projects: ▲ operation of region-linked curricula ▲ region-linked student-tailored integrated support ▲ expansion of district-specialized projects ▲ establishment of administrative support systems.
Looking at the main projects, the 'operation of region-linked curricula' area supports diversification of school curricula through programs such as 'school reading clubs and reading discussion classes,' 'youth reading humanities concerts,' and 'student cultural, artistic, and sports activities.'
The 'region-linked student-tailored integrated support' area operates demand-centered customized programs considering the characteristics of each school level, such as 'Todak Todak Village School,' 'SG Future School Campus,' and 'Youth Public Relations Planner Training Program.'
Additionally, the 'expansion of district-specialized projects' area operates and supports various programs to cultivate future competencies of children and youth reflecting the characteristics of Gwanak-gu, including 'youth festivals,' 'youth autonomous councils,' and 'youth clubs.'
Along with this, the Future Education District Operation Committee and teacher support groups will be operated to strengthen regional education cooperation, and the Gwanak Future Education Forum will be held to share the latest educational trends and visions.
Mayor Park Jun-hee emphasized the vision and goals of the Gwanak Future Education District to eliminate educational gaps between regions and schools and to foster future competencies of youth, stating, “We will do our best to create an educational environment where young people can freely pursue their dreams and grow into future talents with inclusiveness and creativity.”
Meanwhile, in 2023, the Gwanak Future Education District promoted 21 projects across four areas, providing children and youth with various programs linked to the local community.
