Jeong Jong-bok, Gijang County Governor, Visits Gijang Market to Inspect Livelihood Sites Ahead of Seollal Holiday

Busan's Gijang County, led by County Governor Jeong Jong-bok, visited Gijang Market on the 8th ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday to communicate with market merchants and inspect the livelihood sites.

On this day, Governor Jeong visited several stores within Gijang Market to check the prices of holiday shopping baskets, listened to the merchants' difficulties and voices from the field, and sought solutions to major pending issues together.


He also expressed his gratitude to the merchants who have been striving to revitalize the traditional market while wisely overcoming difficulties caused by high inflation, high interest rates, and global seafood issues.


He checked whether visitors to the market experienced any inconvenience in using the market and collected their opinions, actively promoting Gijang Market as a place filled with the highest quality products and warmth nationwide.


Governor Jeong Jong-bok said, “As we approach the Lunar New Year holiday, I hope that smiles bloom brightly on the faces of Gijang Market merchants and that only good things happen. We will actively support the creation of a traditional market environment where merchants and visitors can use the market safely and conveniently, so that Gijang Market can establish itself as the best traditional market in the country.”


This year, Gijang County secured a budget of about 270 million KRW for the traditional market facility improvement project, carrying out floor maintenance in the main building of Gijang Market, window and shutter replacement, old pipe improvements, and emergency light replacement work. Additionally, a research project on coexistence and revitalization plans for Gijang Market and nearby commercial districts is being conducted to explore development plans for revitalizing the Gijang Market commercial area.


Furthermore, in preparation for this Lunar New Year holiday, a joint inspection with related agencies was conducted to prevent fires in traditional markets, completing safety inspections in areas such as fire, electricity, and gas. Efforts are also being made to ensure thorough safety management of traditional markets by strengthening surveillance activities focused on vulnerable areas and times.
