Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk, conducted a volunteer activity on the 6th organized by the Uljin-gun Comprehensive Volunteer Center (Director Jang Tae-yoon) called ‘Sharing Seollal Rice Cake Soup Kits with Neighbors’.
Uljin County conducted a warm Lunar New Year sharing volunteer activity, sharing warmth with neighbors through Seollal rice cake soup kits.
This activity is part of the ‘2024 Warmth of Love Sharing Relay,’ where volunteers pack and deliver rice cake soup kits while checking on the well-being of neighbors and inquiring about their condition.
The rice cake soup kits were prepared with ingredients suitable for the Seollal holiday meal, including rice cake soup rice cakes, dumplings, beef bone broth, eggs, and seaweed, allowing recipients to make rice cake soup. Volunteers carefully packed and delivered these kits to 200 vulnerable households in the area, including elderly living alone, people with disabilities, and grandparent-headed families.
Jang Tae-yoon, Director of the Uljin-gun Comprehensive Volunteer Center, said, “We hope the warmth of sharing and volunteering spreads throughout Uljin-gun so that all residents can have a warm Seollal holiday.”
Kim Ju-don, Director of the Welfare Policy Division, stated, “We hope that the holiday volunteer activities will serve as an opportunity to discover welfare blind spots and that many people in marginalized groups can have a warm holiday.”
Uljin-gun and the Uljin-gun Comprehensive Volunteer Center have designated the period from January 30 to February 8 as the ‘2024 Seollal Intensive Volunteer Week’ and are conducting various volunteer activities such as environmental cleanup, housing sanitation, and sharing ritual supplies together with several local volunteer organizations.
