Mayor Lee Kang-deok of Pohang visited the ‘Neulpureunmaeum Community Child Center’ (Director Kim Jeong-ryeong) located in Duho-dong on the 7th to keep his promise with the children.
On the 7th, Mayor Lee Gang-deok of Pohang visited the 'Neulpureunmaeum Regional Children's Center' and spent time in conversation encouraging the children's dreams.
The children at the ‘Neulpureunmaeum Community Child Center’ first connected with Mayor Lee last year when they sent him handwritten letters wishing him a speedy recovery while he was undergoing treatment for a chronic illness.
Afterwards, the mayor personally promised in a handwritten letter, “Once I recover and return to the office in good health, I want to invite you all to the city hall,” and in August, he invited the children to the city hall to express his gratitude.
At that time, the children expressed their desire to invite the mayor to the Neulpureunmaeum Community Child Center, and this time, with the mayor’s direct visit to the center, that promise was fulfilled.
When Mayor Lee Kang-deok entered the child center that day, the children warmly welcomed him after a long time.
The mayor said, “Your support has been a great strength, and I have been working even harder these days,” and added, “Since children are the future of Pohang, I am curious about what kind of wonderful adults you will grow up to be,” spending time talking about their future aspirations with the children.
The children shared their dreams of becoming soccer players, teachers, and more. When one child expressed a dream of becoming the mayor of Pohang, the mayor advised, “If you get along well with your friends and study hard, you can become a great mayor who will lead Pohang.”
Additionally, the mayor met with university students volunteering at the child center and center staff, urging them to pay close attention to helping the children grow up healthy.
Kim Jeong-ryeong, director of the Neulpureunmaeum Community Child Center, expressed gratitude, saying, “Thank you for not forgetting and keeping your promise with the children despite your busy schedule,” and added, “We will continue to strive to practice the love we have received from the community through warm sharing.”
Since 2016, the Neulpureunmaeum Community Child Center has been practicing warm sharing by collecting small amounts of pocket money from children every year and donating scholarships to the Pohang Scholarship Foundation, among other activities.
Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, “The future of Pohang lies with the growing children,” and added, “We will maintain continuous interest and promote various support policies so that children can grow into the talents the future demands.”
Pohang City operates a thorough and robust customized care system for children’s healthy growth, running 64 community child centers and 6 Dahamkke Care Centers as an after-school care service system.
