Gu Hye-sun Loses Again in 2nd Trial Against Former Agency Over Unpaid Appearance Fees Lawsuit

Actress Gu Hye-sun (39) filed a lawsuit demanding unpaid appearance fees and other payments from her former agency, but she lost again in the appellate court.

The Seoul High Court Civil Division 5 (Presiding Judges Seol Beom-sik, Lee Jun-young, and Choi Sung-bo) ruled on the 8th that Gu Hye-sun's claim for damages worth about 170 million won against her former agency HB Entertainment (HB Enter) was dismissed, the same as the original ruling. However, the court did not explain the reasons for the judgment in court.

Regarding the ruling, HB Entertainment issued an official statement saying, "The lawsuit filed by Gu Hye-sun demanded payment of profits from YouTube videos and claimed copyright over videos published on the HB Entertainment channel," adding, "The court dismissed all of the plaintiff’s claims."

Gu Hye-sun expressed dissatisfaction around the time of her divorce from her then-husband Ahn Jae-hyun (36), who was also under the same agency in 2019, stating that "the agency only handled matters from Ahn Jae-hyun’s perspective," and notified the termination of her exclusive contract in August of the same year. HB Entertainment also requested arbitration, claiming that Gu Hye-sun had violated the contract terms.

The dispute between the two parties was arbitrated by the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board, which resulted in ending the exclusive contract between Gu Hye-sun and HB Entertainment, but Gu Hye-sun was ordered to pay about 35 million won to the agency for costs related to building YouTube channel content.

After paying the amount, Gu Hye-sun filed a lawsuit demanding appearance fees for the YouTube channel, editing service fees, music usage fees, and advertising revenue from HB Entertainment, but the first trial court rejected her claims.

Meanwhile, Gu Hye-sun married Ahn Jae-hyun in May 2016 and divorced after four years in 2020 through mediation.
