Ten Days in Indonesia, Joint Activities with Indonesia National University and Udayana University
National Pukyong University (President Jang Young-su) held the 15th Pukyong UN Supporters Winter Special Volunteer Activity in Indonesia for ten days from the 26th of last month to the 4th of this month.
About 20 members, including Oh Ji-yoon, the representative of Pukyong UN Supporters (4th year, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineering major), carried out UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs) specialized volunteer activities jointly with the University of Indonesia in Jakarta and Udayana University in Bali during this period.
Pukyong UN Supporters is a student volunteer group based at National Pukyong University located in the UN Peace and Culture Special Zone in Nam-gu, Busan, launched in 2009. They conduct veterans' events for domestic and overseas war veterans and peace volunteer activities to practice the UN-SDGs.
While conducting various volunteer activities every year, this year, during the winter vacation, they collaborated with the University of Indonesia and Udayana University based on their self-planned volunteer activity proposals to unite efforts for practicing the UN-SDGs, including responding to abnormal climate, environmental protection, and poverty alleviation.
At the University of Indonesia, they held a mock UN meeting with local students to design Indonesia's sustainable development goals and discuss solutions to issues such as refugees and environmental pollution. At Udayana University, they conducted joint volunteer activities with local students, including marine plogging, mangrove forest cultivation, and helping with seaweed farming.
In addition, Pukyong UN Supporters students strengthened the global cooperation system between universities and held Korean language education and cultural exchange events at each university to promote friendship between Indonesia and Korea.
Oh Ji-yoon, a student who participated in the activities, said, “By planning the volunteer program ourselves and practicing global common goals together with overseas university students, it was a meaningful experience through which I believe I was able to develop the capabilities to play an active role in the international community beyond the local region.”
