Easy Passport Issuance and All-Day Care Centers for Disabled Implemented
Mayor Lee Sang-il: "Administration Must Consider Citizens' Perspectives"
'Passport issuance with a single visit to the civil service office,' 'Installation of elevators in traditional market restrooms,' 'All-day care for people with severe disabilities'... These are various life-oriented services that Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, will implement this year.
Yongin City announced on the 8th that it held the '2024 Citizen-Experienced Life-Oriented Project Report Meeting' chaired by Mayor Sang-il Lee on the 5th and 7th, discussing the implementation plans for 104 related projects. At the meeting, the city decided to expand life-oriented services that enhance citizen convenience with innovative ideas across various fields.

This year, Yongin City plans to carry out related projects in various fields including ▲citizen convenience ▲education and culture ▲system improvement ▲welfare ▲health ▲business and economy ▲environment ▲safety ▲urban and safety ▲transportation.
First, the city increased the support fund for middle and high school freshmen uniforms from 300,000 won last year to 400,000 won and expanded the usage range from uniforms to daily wear and sportswear, considering that students wear daily wear or sportswear as much as uniforms at school.
To reduce the inconvenience of multiple visits to the civil service office for passport issuance, simple services such as online reissuance available with a single visit and registered mail delivery will also be provided.
The city will also operate an all-day care center for people with severe disabilities who were cared for at home when their guardians suddenly face situations such as hospitalization. This is to support gap care in the absence of guardians and help stabilize the psychological state of the disabled. The center is planned to be introduced in the second half of the year after a public contest for the implementing agency.
At Yongin Jungang Market, where using the old stairs to access the public restroom was inconvenient, the stairs will be removed and an elevator installed. Additionally, eco-friendly street vacuum cleaners will be pilot introduced in places with heavy foot traffic and narrow sidewalks such as Bojeong and Jukjeon-dong in Giheung District and Yeokbuk-dong in Cheoin District.
AI traffic safety facilities will be introduced around school routes where pedestrian traffic accidents frequently occur to prevent crosswalk traffic accidents. This system records pedestrians on the right-side crosswalk of intersections and notifies drivers via electronic display boards to help prevent sudden incidents.
In residential complexes within the Han River watershed area, ‘elevator regenerative braking devices’ that recover and reuse electricity wasted during elevator operation will be distributed. This is expected to contribute to carbon reduction by saving about 250,000 won in electricity costs per elevator annually.
Mayor Lee said, "Administration also requires imagination," adding, "If we directly experience inconveniences in daily life and consider improvements from the citizens’ perspective, Yongin will become an even better living community."
