The intensive inspections and pest control are being carried out to prevent the nationwide spread of bedbugs during the Lunar New Year holiday, following recent reports of bedbug infestations at some lodging facilities in Jeju Island.

The National Park Service will conduct thorough inspections of all rooms and perform physical pest control using high-temperature steam cleaners. Additionally, chemical pest control will be conducted by applying small amounts of Ministry of Environment-approved pesticides between bedding and wall cracks in the rooms. Sheets will also be changed daily to monitor signs of bedbug presence.

The National Park Service has been continuously conducting pest control since November of last year. Thanks to these efforts, there have been no reports of bedbug infestations in facilities within national natural recreation forests nationwide to date.

During the Lunar New Year holiday period from February 9 to 12, about 20,000 people have made reservations for lodging and camping at national natural recreation forests across the country.

Kim Myung-jong, Director of the Korea National Park Service, stated, “We will do our best to thoroughly inspect and control pests in room facilities to prevent and eradicate bedbugs, so that the public can use the national natural recreation forests with peace of mind during the Lunar New Year holiday.”
