Uibanghak Light Rail, Basic Plan Approved Following Confirmation of Total Project Cost of 426.7 Billion KRW... Only May Central Investment Review and Construction Method Decision Remain Before Groundbreaking
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced that following the Ministry of Economy and Finance's confirmation of the total project cost of 426.7 billion KRW for the Ui-Banghak Light Rail Transit, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's basic plan was approved on the 6th.
Only the Central Investment Review in May and the decision on the construction execution method remain before groundbreaking.
So far, the Ui-Banghak Light Rail Transit has undergone about two years of demand forecast reassessment, strategic environmental impact assessment, transfer benefit review, design appropriateness review, and total project cost negotiations to obtain basic plan approval.
Once the Central Investment Review passes in May and the construction execution method is decided, groundbreaking could take place as early as the first half of next year.
Currently, the district office has requested Seoul City to adopt a turnkey method (design-build lump-sum bidding method), including detailed design and construction contract issuance, to expedite the groundbreaking of the Ui-Banghak Light Rail Transit, and plans to assert this position through a meeting with the Mayor of Seoul to ensure groundbreaking by the first half of 2025 at the latest.
Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “Groundbreaking for the Ui-Banghak Light Rail Transit is now within reach. We will focus the district's administrative efforts to ensure the remaining procedures are completed promptly.”
