Seodaemun-gu Leads Youth Food Service Startup Support... Plans to Expand with 2nd Shared Kitchen and Online Sales Startup Support

Seodaemun-gu Selected as Operator of 'Youth Kiwoom Restaurant' Project for 6 Consecutive Years

Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seongheon) recently announced on the 6th that it has secured a total of 200 million KRW in national funding this year after being selected as the implementing institution for the ‘2024 Youth Startup Restaurant Incubating Project’ by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT).

The ‘Youth Startup Restaurant’ project provides practical store operation opportunities to prospective entrepreneurs who wish to start a food service business, and has been implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and aT since 2017 to help them achieve successful startups.

Seodaemun-gu applied as a public-private-academic consortium formed with Ewha Womans University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation and Efood Lab Co., Ltd., achieving the result of being selected for six consecutive years from 2019 to this year.

Through this, the district established the ‘Youth Startup Restaurant’ Sinchon branch at Sinchon Boxquare, providing young people aspiring to start a food service business with menu development, various consulting for store operation, and practical experience opportunities.

Additionally, the district was selected as an excellent project implementing institution and received the Minister’s Award three times, while a total of eight teams participating in the Youth Startup Restaurant also received Minister’s Awards.

Starting this year, in addition to the existing ‘Sinchon Boxquare,’ a new ‘Sinchon Shared Kitchen Branch No. 2’ will be newly opened to expand support for various forms of food service startups.

While strengthening the existing face-to-face sales service, a new food manufacturing and processing system will be introduced to support startups through ‘manufacturing and online communication sales.’

Lee Seongheon, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, said, “The selection as the implementing institution for the Youth Startup Restaurant is expected to have a positive effect not only on creating youth jobs but also on revitalizing the local economy.”

The ‘Youth Startup Restaurant’ Sinchon branch is scheduled to operate from March after selecting participants within this month. Detailed information can be found on the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) website, Sinchon Boxquare website, and Instagram.
